Cedar Rapids Felon Nicholas Campbell-Scott Sentenced to Four Years for Vehicle Shooting

Cedar Rapids, Iowa — Nicholas Campbell-Scott, a 24-year-old convicted felon from the city, was sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison on November 30, 2021, for shooting at a vehicle. Campbell-Scott’s sentence includes 57 months’ imprisonment and a three-year supervised release term following his release.

The incident occurred in December 2020 when Campbell-Scott discharged several shots at a moving vehicle. Despite the presence of nearby pedestrians, no one was injured, but the vehicle sustained damage. The gunman was apprehended a short distance from the scene, having been traveling as a passenger. A firearm used in the shooting was found beneath his seat.

Campbell-Scott has at least four prior felony convictions on his record, some involving violent offenses. He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon on May 13, 2021, leading to the stiff sentence imposed by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids.

Assistant United States Attorney Ashley Corkery handled the prosecution of this case, which was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative dedicated to reducing violent crime through a cooperative effort involving local law enforcement, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.

The PSN program focuses on identifying and targeting violent offenders within the community while working with prevention and reentry programs. Campbell-Scott’s sentence is a testament to the effectiveness of this evidence-based approach in combating gun violence.
