Mexican Man Sentenced to 6 Years for Child Pornography Charges

McALLEN, Texas – Angel DeJesus Torres, a 32-year-old Mexican man residing in Donna, has been sentenced to 72 months in federal prison for using peer-to-peer (P2P) applications to download child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

In a harsh blow to the defendant, Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane ordered Torres to serve 72 months in federal prison. At the hearing, the court heard additional information that Torres used numerous P2P applications to download child pornography, ultimately resulting in 43 videos of child pornography being found on his devices.

These videos contained prepubescent children aged four to nine as well as minors subjected to acts of bondage, a truly disturbing and heinous crime. Torres was further ordered to pay $45,000 in restitution to the victims, a sum that barely scratches the surface of the emotional scars inflicted on these innocent children.

The investigation, conducted by the Homeland Security Investigations Rio Grande Valley Child Exploitation Investigations Task Force, began in October 2018 when authorities identified an IP address in Donna offering to participate in the distribution of images and child pornography. In May 2019, authorities executed a federal search warrant at the address, identifying Torres as one of the occupants.

During the search, law enforcement seized two cellphones, including Torres’ personal phone. Forensic analysis of Torres’ phone revealed 43 videos of child pornography, including prepubescent minors under the age of 12. Torres admitted to frequently downloading, receiving, and possessing child pornography, a stark admission that highlights the severity of his crimes.

Torres will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
