Felons Caught Red-Handed with Guns: Rovonte Lamar Daniels, Frederick Lee Brown Face 15 Years

Orlando, FL – In a shocking display of brazen disregard for the law, two Seminole County residents have been indicted for possession of firearms by convicted felons.

Rovonte Lamar Daniels, 29, of Sanford, and Frederick Lee Brown, 31, of Sanford, are facing federal charges after a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the indictment, Daniels and Brown each possessed a Canik firearm on December 13, 2023, despite knowing they were convicted felons. Under federal law, they are prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Daniels has previously been convicted of four felony offenses, while Brown has been convicted of five felony offenses. If convicted, each faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison.

The indictment also notifies Daniels and Brown that the United States intends to forfeit the firearms and ammunition involved in the offense. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities nationwide.

An indictment is merely a formal charge, and both defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Richard Varadan.

The FBI, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and Orange County Sheriff’s Office worked together to bring this case to fruition, highlighting the importance of interagency cooperation in combating violent crime.

Project Safe Neighborhoods is a program that brings together law enforcement and community leaders to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer. The Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy in 2021, strengthening PSN based on core principles of fostering trust, supporting community-based organizations, setting focused enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
