18.5 Years for Mason City Meth Kingpin Tristan Walker

A Mason City, Iowa man is headed to federal prison for more than 18 years after being caught in a massive methamphetamine conspiracy. 44-year-old Tristan Walker, originally from Alabama, was sentenced May 6, 2024, to 222 months’ imprisonment by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand in Sioux City.

The charges stemmed from a guilty plea Walker entered on January 2, 2024. Between October 2022, and December 2022, Walker knowingly and intentionally conspired and distributed 195 grams of pure “ice” methamphetamine. This is not Walker’s first run-in with the law. He has an extensive criminal history, including convictions for attempted first degree murder (two counts), domestic battery, domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury, assault causing bodily injury, accessory after the fact, burglary, and going armed with intent.

The evidence against Walker was gathered by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s office and Iowa Department of Public Safety – Division of Narcotics. Assistant United States Attorney Ron Timmons prosecuted the case.

Walker must also serve a 5-year term of supervised release after his prison term, which is set to begin immediately. He is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case was a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in Iowa. The investigation and subsequent prosecution of Walker serves as a warning to those involved in the trade that they will be caught and punished.

Walker’s case file number is 23-3019, and can be accessed at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl. Follow us on Twitter @USAO_NDIA for updates on this and other cases.
