Sawed-Off Shotgun: Strawberry Point Felon Gets 70-Month Prison Term

Strawberry Point Man, 56, Sentenced to 70 Months for Possessing Sawed-Off Shotgun

Scott Wesley Timmerman, a 56-year-old from Strawberry Point, Iowa, has been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for possessing a sawed-off shotgun. The sentence was handed down on May 3, 2024, by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Timmerman was found in possession of a sawed-off Winchester shotgun in a park after hours. The firearm was not registered to him in the federal registry. In a plea agreement, Timmerman admitted to possessing the firearm, which was a violation of federal law as a previously convicted felon.

Timmerman had two prior felony convictions in Arizona, which made him ineligible to possess a firearm. The case against Timmerman was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Reinert and investigated by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Timmerman is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

Timmerman was fined $500 and must serve a three-year term of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. The case file number is 23-CR-2054, and court file information can be accessed at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl.

The investigation and prosecution of this case are part of a larger effort to reduce violent crime and gun violence in the community. Project Safe Neighborhoods is a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
