Fentanyl Felon Alvarez Joseph Cyprian Caged for 200 Pill Sell

Madisonville, LA – A 23-year-old St. Tammany Parish man has taken a plea deal for a fentanyl pill heist that landed him 20 years behind bars.

Alvarez Joseph Cyprian, 23, of Madisonville, Louisiana, pleaded guilty to violating the Federal Controlled Substances Act before United States District Judge Susie Morgan on May 14, 2024.

Cyprian pleaded guilty to Counts 1 and 3 of the indictment, which charged him with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute a quantity of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl, a Schedule II controlled substance, and distributing and possessing with the intent to distribute a quantity of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl.

According to court documents, Cyprian sold fentanyl pills to an undercover agent on September 8, 2023, meeting the agent in Covington and giving the agent 200 fentanyl pills in exchange for $550.

Cyprian faces up to 20 years imprisonment, a fine of up to $1,000,000, at least 3 years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.00 for Counts 1 and 3. His sentencing is set for August 15, 2024.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Rachal Cassagne of the Narcotics Unit oversaw the prosecution.

The plea deal marks a major win for local law enforcement and federal authorities in their ongoing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and bring those responsible for spreading fentanyl to justice.
