A convicted felon from Yazoo City, Mississippi, is facing 15 years behind bars after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm.
Desmond Robinson, 28, of Yazoo City, was found with a firearm during a traffic stop by the Yazoo City Police Department, according to court documents.
The traffic stop, which led to Robinson’s arrest, is still under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Samuel Goff is prosecuting the case, and U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee and Special Agent in Charge Robert A. Eikhoff of the Federal Bureau of Investigation made the announcement.
As part of a joint federal, state, and local effort, the case was prosecuted as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, a centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts. PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
Robinson is scheduled to be sentenced on September 4, 2024, and a federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The Project Safe Neighborhoods Program has been proven to be effective in reducing violent crime, and through this initiative, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee emphasized the importance of this program in reducing violent crime in communities across the country. ‘The success of this program is a testament to our commitment to making our communities safer and reducing violent crime rates.’
