Brooklyn Man Convicted of Smuggling Aliens for Cash

A 36-year-old Brooklyn man has been convicted of smuggling aliens in a case that highlights the ongoing threat of human trafficking in the United States.

Ydenis Adames-Ramos, a native of the Dominican Republic living in Brooklyn, was found guilty by a jury of one count of illegally transporting aliens, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000.00, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years.

The evidence presented at trial established that on March 11, 2023, Adames-Ramos drove from his home in Brooklyn to Chateaugay, New York, to pick up three individuals who were illegally present in the United States. He then transported those aliens in the Chateaugay, New York area, shortly before being stopped by United States Border Patrol.

Adames-Ramos intended to drive the aliens to Queens, New York, and then receive a payment of $2,000, according to court documents. The United States Border Patrol investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jessica N. Carbone and Adrian S. LaRochelle are prosecuting the case.

The conviction is a significant blow to human trafficking networks operating in the New York area, and it highlights the importance of continued efforts to combat this crime. Sentencing is scheduled for October 3, 2024, in Albany, before United States District Judge Anne M. Nardacci.

As the investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate, the Department of Justice is committed to protecting the public from the serious harm caused by human trafficking. We will continue to work tirelessly to identify and bring to justice those who engage in this reprehensible crime.
