Opa-locka Man Gets 30 Years for Sick Online Sex Solicitation of Teen Girls

A 25-year-old Opa-locka man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for preying on two 15-year-old girls online.

Malik Hosea Atkinson, known online as “@jpmon8,” “@Mall9488673,” and “unknown_value#5861,” was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Miami to 360 months’ imprisonment, followed by a lifetime of supervised release, for two counts of online solicitation of a minor to commit a sexual act.

As part of his guilty plea, Atkinson admitted that in 2022 and 2023 he met the two teenage girls online in a social networking application and convinced them to meet him in person. He drove from Miami-Dade County to Palm Beach County to have sex with one of the victims multiple times in his white van, and to Broward County to have sex with the other victim.

The investigation, led by the FBI Miami and West Palm Beach Resident Agency, uncovered that Atkinson had video recorded himself sexually exploiting the victims and had communicated similarly online with other minor females. The evidence also revealed that Atkinson possessed other child sexual abuse material.

“These crimes are so severe, so egregious,” U.S. District Judge Robyn L. Rosenberg said during sentencing. “The defendant’s actions are a stark reminder of the dangers of online predators and the importance of protecting our children.”

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe and Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey B. Veltri of the FBI, Miami Field Office, announced the guilty plea.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Schiller is prosecuting the case, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara Klco is handling forfeiture.

The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protecting children from online predators and bringing perpetrators to justice.

Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
