Meth Mule Ramirez-Vasquez Gets 7+ Years

LINCOLN, NE – Francisco Ramirez-Vasquez, a 22-year-old citizen of Guatemala, will spend the next 87 months behind bars after being sentenced in federal court on June 25, 2024, for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Senior United States District Judge Joseph F. Bataillon handed down the sentence, ensuring Ramirez-Vasquez will serve the full term with no possibility of parole.

The case began to unravel on March 15, 2023, when a suspicious package caught the attention of the United States Postal Service (USPS). A narcotics-trained canine alerted inspectors to the presence of drugs within. Inside, investigators discovered three tightly wrapped bundles of methamphetamine, totaling approximately seven pounds. This wasn’t a stray package; it was a delivery headed straight for a Hastings, Nebraska address.

Under surveillance, law enforcement executed a controlled delivery on March 16, 2023. As expected, the package reached Ramirez-Vasquez. A subsequent search of his residence yielded a sickening haul: the original package, a second USPS box also containing meth, additional stashes of the drug hidden throughout the house, a quantity of cocaine, what appeared to be a drug ledger detailing transactions, a hefty $8,026 in U.S. currency, a digital scale for weighing the product, and the telltale signs of a drug operation – unused sandwich baggies and drug paraphernalia.

The evidence didn’t stop there. A forensic analysis by the State Patrol Crime Lab confirmed the substance seized was, in fact, methamphetamine, with a total weight exceeding 2665 grams. A 443-gram sample revealed an actual meth content of at least 420 grams – a significant quantity indicating a serious trafficking operation. Further damning evidence was extracted from Ramirez-Vasquez’s phone, revealing text messages directly linked to the distribution of the drug.

The investigation, a collaborative effort led by the Tri-City Drug Enforcement Team (TRIDENT), involved a multi-agency task force comprising personnel from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Grand Island Police Department, Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Hastings Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, Kearney Police Department, and the Nebraska State Patrol. Their coordinated work brought Ramirez-Vasquez to justice.

Following his imprisonment, Ramirez-Vasquez will face a two-year term of supervised release. United States Attorney Susan Lehr stated the sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime and serves as a warning to those involved in bringing dangerous drugs into Nebraska communities. This bust is just one small victory in the ongoing war against the flood of narcotics poisoning the nation.”
