BUFFALO, N.Y. – Nineteen-year-old Raymond Medina of Jamestown is headed to federal prison for four years. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced today that Medina was sentenced to 48 months behind bars by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo after being convicted of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The case shines a light on the persistent drug flow poisoning communities like Jamestown.
The bust went down February 28, 2024, when Jamestown Police responded to a domestic incident at a residence where a valid order of protection was already in place against Medina. Officers found themselves facing more than just a domestic dispute. As they arrived, Medina was spotted leaving the property. It quickly escalated. Medina, immediately argumentative, started to pull away when an officer attempted to detain him, yelling, “I don’t got nothing bro.”
That’s when things turned into a foot chase. An officer, witnessing Medina reach toward his waistband, gave chase as the suspect bolted. A taser deployment proved ineffective, but officers weren’t deterred. They established a perimeter, utilizing footprints in the snow and a K-9 unit to track Medina. The search ended with Medina discovered huddled behind a shed, attempting to hide.
Along the route of Medina’s desperate flight, officers recovered a quantity of methamphetamine, clearly packaged for street-level sales. Assistant U.S. Attorney Donna M. Duncan, prosecuting the case, presented the evidence that sealed Medina’s fate. The evidence pointed to a clear intent to profit from pushing poison into the hands of others.
The investigation, a joint effort between the Jamestown Police Department, led by Chief Timothy Jackson, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, under Special Agent-in-Charge Frank A. Tarentino III of the New York Field Division, demonstrates a coordinated approach to tackling drug trafficking in upstate New York. This sentencing serves as a warning: dealing drugs carries serious consequences.
Medina’s four-year sentence underscores the federal government’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and holding individuals accountable for their actions. While this case is closed, the Grimy Times will continue to track the flow of illicit substances and report on those who profit from the misery of others.
