A federal inmate has been charged with making threats against a federal official, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs. John Robert Bond, 55, was named in an indictment returned by a federal grand jury this week in the Eastern District of Texas.
The indictment alleges that on May 25, 2025, Bond, a federal inmate housed with the Bureau of Prisons in Beaumont, threatened to assault and murder the Federal Bureau of Prisons Camp Administrator. This is a serious offense that will not be taken lightly by the Department of Justice.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
If convicted, Bond faces up to 10 years in federal prison. This is a significant sentence that reflects the severity of the crime. The Department of Justice will continue to prosecute cases like this to the fullest extent of the law.
This case is being investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John B. Ross. The FBI has a long history of investigating crimes against federal officials, and this case is no exception. The Bureau will continue to work tirelessly to bring those who threaten federal officials to justice.
A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. However, the evidence in this case suggests that Bond did indeed threaten a federal official, and he will now face the consequences of his actions.
The Department of Justice is committed to protecting federal officials from threats and violence. This case is just one example of the many efforts being made to keep our communities safe. By prosecuting cases like this, the Department of Justice is sending a clear message that threats against federal officials will not be tolerated.
