Pittsburgh Felon Jamar Perminter Indicted on Gun Charge

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Another gun-toting ex-con back on the streets, and now facing serious federal time. Jamar Perminter, 26, of Pittsburgh, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition, Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced today.

The indictment, unsealed today, alleges that on or about July 31, 2025, Perminter was found to be in possession of a weapon despite a prior felony conviction – a clear violation of federal law. Details surrounding the initial encounter that led to the charges remain tight-lipped, but the feds are moving fast.

Federal statutes are blunt: a convicted felon is not allowed to possess firearms or ammunition, period. Perminter is now facing the consequences. The charge carries a hefty maximum sentence of up to 15 years behind bars, alongside a potential fine of up to $250,000, or both. It’s a steep price for breaking the law, but one the Justice Department is pushing for.

Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher will be leading the prosecution. She’s a seasoned veteran known for securing convictions in complex cases, and Perminter will be facing a tough fight. Sentencing, however, won’t be automatic. The judge will consider the specifics of the offense and Perminter’s criminal history when determining the final penalty, according to federal guidelines.

The investigation was spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), who brought the case forward. Sources inside the bureau say this was a targeted operation, and they’re looking into whether Perminter’s possession of the firearm was linked to any other criminal activity. The FBI isn’t commenting on specifics at this time.

It’s crucial to remember that an indictment is merely an accusation. Jamar Perminter is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, with the weight of the federal government behind this case, and the strict penalties for this type of offense, the odds are stacked against him. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on any developments.
