SIOUX FALLS – A gritty chapter has closed in the ongoing battle against illegal firearms, as Jericho James Ladeaux, 32, of Sioux Falls, faced federal justice for his brazen act. United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell reported that on September 29, 2025, U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier handed down a sentence that would send Ladeaux to prison for the better part of five years.
Ladeaux was sentenced to four years and three months behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release. The court also ordered him to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and forfeit the firearm and ammunition that landed him in hot water.
This conviction came after Ladeaux’s arrest on January 9, 2025, during which police found him driving what appeared to be a stolen vehicle. When they pulled him over, they discovered he was armed with a loaded pistol, something Ladeaux was not legally permitted to possess due to previous felony convictions.
The Sioux Falls Police Department, the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) worked tirelessly to bring this case to a close. Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney Connie Larson led the prosecution, ensuring that justice was served.
This operation is part of Operation Take Back America, a broad-scale initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime. Through Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN), the District of South Dakota has united all levels of law enforcement to reduce gun violence and enhance public safety.
Ladeaux was immediately remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, where he will serve his sentence and have a chance to reflect on the consequences of his actions.
