Mexican Man Jailed for 18 Months for Deadly Re-Entry

⏱ 3 min read

A brazen high-speed pursuit through a Kalispell neighborhood ended with a crash and a 47-year-old Mexican man facing 18 months behind bars for re-entering the US illegally.

Baldemar Duarte-Nieto was found by law enforcement on July 26, 2025, after a short vehicle and foot pursuit that reached speeds of 80 mph.

Duarte-Nieto struck a Toyota Camry filled with four people, but no one was seriously injured.

A K-9 was deployed to apprehend him, and a search of his belongings turned up evidence of his history of violent crimes, including an assault with a weapon in 1996 and a carjacking in 2002.

Duarte-Nieto had been removed from the US three times previously, including in 1996, 2000, and November 2021, but continued to use assumed identities to evade detection.

He pleaded guilty to one count of illegal re-entry in November 2025 and was sentenced by US District Judge Donald W. Molloy.
