Man Sentenced for Re-Entry after Aggravated Felony
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Abdias Roblero-Mazariegos, 32, a Mexican man with a history of violence, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for re-entry into the country after being convicted of an aggravated felony.
On October 28, 2012, Roblero-Mazariegos was stopped by the Albion Police Department as a passenger in a car. During the encounter, he admitted to being in the country illegally, claiming to be a citizen of Mexico. A background check revealed a disturbing history, including a conviction in 2002 for Assault with a Deadly Weapon without the intent to kill in the state of Florida.
Roblero-Mazariegos was subsequently deported, but he saw fit to return to the United States, ignoring the laws and consequences that should have kept him out.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo, who handled the case, stated that Roblero-Mazariegos’ actions demonstrated a callous disregard for the law and the safety of others.
U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced the sentencing, which was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny.
The investigation that led to Roblero-Mazariegos’ sentencing was conducted by Special Agents of the United States Border Patrol, under the direction of Chief Border Patrol Agent Kevin W. Oaks.
This case serves as a reminder that immigration laws are in place for a reason, and those who choose to ignore them will be held accountable. Roblero-Mazariegos’ 24-month sentence is a testament to the seriousness with which our justice system views this type of crime.
