Rochester Woman Sentenced for Threatening the President
A brutal threat to the President of the United States has landed a Rochester woman behind bars. Christine Wright-Darrisaw, 38, was sentenced to 33 months in prison by U.S. District Court Judge Frank P Geraci, after being convicted of making a direct threat to kill the President and lying to United States Secret Service Agents.
The crime occurred on February 24, 2012, when Wright-Darrisaw made a phone call to the White House, threatening President Barack Obama. The White House Operator who took the call testified at trial, describing the ‘brutality’ and ‘violence’ of Wright-Darrisaw’s words.
Secret Service Agents from Washington and Rochester were able to identify Wright-Darrisaw as the suspect and linked her to the cellular telephone used to make the threat. During an interview with the Secret Service, Wright-Darrisaw made several false statements that impacted the investigation.
A jury found Wright-Darrisaw guilty of making a direct threat to kill the President and lying to the Secret Service. The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation by Special Agents of the United States Secret Service, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge, Tracy Gast.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Craig R. Gestring and Grace M. Carducci handled the prosecution of the case. They stated that the defendant’s actions were a serious threat to national security and that justice has been served.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting the President and the President’s family from harm. It also highlights the role of the Secret Service in investigating and prosecuting threats to national security.
The sentencing of Wright-Darrisaw brings an end to a case that began with a disturbing phone call to the White House. The case is a clear example of the serious consequences that can result from making threats to the President or other government officials.
