New Orleans Man Jailed 20 Years for Child Pornography

A 25-year-old New Orleans resident, CHRISTOPHER M. SCHWAB, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for producing and distributing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite announced today.

SCHWAB was found guilty of four counts of producing child pornography involving four different minor victims, one count of distributing child pornography, and one count of receiving child pornography.

United States District Chief Judge Sarah Vance handed down the sentence, which includes 20 years of incarceration in the Bureau of Prisons, followed by 25 years of supervised release. Upon his release from prison, SCHWAB will be required to register as a sex offender.

The investigation into SCHWAB’s crimes began in August 2013, when special agents with the United States Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), discovered that he was sending images depicting the sexual exploitation of children. SCHWAB has been in custody since his arrest.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the government to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Kenner Police Department. The prosecution of this case was handled by Project Safe Childhood Coordinator and Fraud Unit Chief, Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba. CHRISTOPHER M. SCHWAB’s crimes have landed him a 20-year prison sentence, a harsh reminder of the severe consequences of exploiting and distributing child pornography. As the government continues to crack down on these heinous crimes, it is clear that justice will be served to those who prey on the vulnerable.
