Fentanyl Dealer Tossed Gun & Drugs From Window

⏱ 3 min read

WASHINGTON D.C. – A D.C. man is facing serious time after a jury found him guilty on multiple federal charges related to a massive drug and gun haul. Derrick Thomas Martin, 33, chucked a backpack stuffed with a loaded Century Arms Micro Draco pistol, roughly 700 grams of cocaine, and over 5,700 fentanyl pills out of an apartment window when cops showed up, according to court testimony.

The bust went down November 25, 2024, at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue SE. Metro PD’s Criminal Apprehension Unit was there to serve an outstanding warrant from Cecil County, Maryland – Martin had skipped out on a trial for prior gun and drug charges.

Instead of cooperating, Martin allegedly heaved the backpack out the window. Cops quickly recovered it, finding the pistol, cocaine, and a terrifying number of fentanyl pills inside. A brief struggle ensued when officers entered the apartment, a place where prosecutors noted a child was sleeping nearby.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro didn’t hold back, calling Martin a “career criminal” with 31 prior arrests and a “clear danger” to the community. The jury needed less than a day to deliver a guilty verdict on all four counts: possession with intent to distribute fentanyl (over 100 grams), possession with intent to distribute cocaine (over 500 grams), being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm during drug trafficking.

Martin is scheduled to be sentenced July 10, 2026, before Judge Trevor N. McFadden. He’s looking at a minimum of 15 years in federal prison.
