Felon Busted with Glock in Kanawha County

⏱ 2 min read

CHARLESTON, WV – Robert Thomas, 30, of St. Albans, is looking at a long stretch in federal prison after admitting he had a Glock .40-caliber pistol on January 27th, despite already being a convicted felon.

Thomas knew the drill – a 2019 Putnam County conviction for drug dealing already barred him from owning a firearm. But he had the Glock anyway, found in the Jefferson area of Kanawha County.

Federal prosecutors are aiming for the maximum: 15 years behind bars, plus a possible three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for July 13, 2026.

The bust was part of “Operation Take Back America,” a nationwide DOJ initiative targeting cartels and violent crime—a program that appears to be sweeping up local cases under its broad umbrella.

ATF agents, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, and South Charleston Police all contributed to the investigation. Judge Joseph R. Goodwin is overseeing the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gabriel Price is handling the prosecution.
