Maurice Tutt, 52, will spend the next twenty months in a federal cage after admitting he played a key role in pushing poison through the streets of Southeast Washington. Tutt was sentenced in DC District Court today for his part in a drug operation centered around the notorious Potomac Gardens Housing Project.
Federal prosecutors laid out the case: Tutt wasn’t just a low-level runner. He was a link in a larger chain peddling fentanyl, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, and methamphetamine – a cocktail of misery – directly into a vulnerable neighborhood. The operation fed off the desperation in and around Potomac Gardens, turning profit off addiction.
While twenty months is the sentence for Tutt, the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities haven’t revealed if they’re planning further charges against higher-ups in the supply chain. But for now, one dealer is off the streets, though the demand that fueled his trade remains a persistent problem.
