Aberdeen Man Pleads Guilty to Meth Trafficking

Terrence Gunn, 31, of Aberdeen, Mississippi, admitted in federal court today to trafficking nearly half a kilogram of methamphetamine, standing before U.S. District Judge Henry T. Wingate to plead guilty to possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of the potent stimulant.

The plea comes after a high-speed flight from law enforcement on June 2, 2018, when Gunn met with a suspected co-conspirator in central Mississippi. DEA agents monitoring the exchange watched as the two met, then saw Gunn bolt north on Interstate 55 after a Madison County Sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop. Instead of complying, Gunn accelerated, tossing bags from his vehicle as he fled.

Agents recovered the discarded items—approximately 400 grams of methamphetamine, 40 grams of heroin, and an undisclosed amount of marijuana—evidence that now seals his fate in one of the region’s more brazen drug interdiction cases. The combined weight and purity of the narcotics underscore the scale of distribution Gunn was prepared to fuel.

The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, involved a multi-agency dragnet that included the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, U.S. Marshals Service, and law enforcement from Hinds, Jones, and Madison Counties, as well as city police from Richland, Pearl, and Jackson. The collaboration reflects the federal crackdown on drug corridors along I-55.

Gunn now faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and a $10,000,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for August 23, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. before Judge Wingate. Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Wansley is prosecuting the case.

Federal prosecutors offered no plea deal details, but the guilty plea removes the chance of trial and accelerates Gunn’s march toward a likely decades-long sentence. In the shadow of Mississippi’s opioid and meth crisis, his case stands as both warning and consequence.
