Alonzo Walton, Ex-Cop, Convicted in Gangster Disciples Bloodshed

Five members of the Gangster Disciples, including former DeKalb County police officer Alonzo Walton, were convicted by a federal jury in Atlanta on charges of racketeering, conspiracy to commit murder, carjacking, and attempted robbery. The convictions mark a major blow to the national criminal enterprise long entrenched in Georgia, with evidence exposing a web of violence, intimidation, and systemic corruption reaching into law enforcement itself.

Walton, identified as the ‘Governor’—the highest-ranking Gangster Disciple in Georgia—oversaw a state-level hierarchy built on brutality and silence. Alongside him, Kevin Clayton, the gang’s ‘Chief Enforcer,’ and Donald Glass, leader of the infamous ‘Hate Committee,’ were found guilty of orchestrating acts of violence to maintain control and punish disloyalty. The ‘Hate Committee’ operated as a death squad within the gang, authorized to execute members who violated the strict code of ‘Silence and Secrecy.’

The trial laid bare a trail of blood and terror. Jurors heard testimony about 12 murders committed by the gang, including the cold-blooded killing of a man walking home with his family from a convenience store—one of his children, just 4 years old, watched him die. Surveillance video shown in court captured the aftermath of a Macon nightclub shooting that left three dead and three wounded, carried out by gang members in a bid to eliminate rivals.

Other acts of barbarism included the near-fatal shooting of a man who refused to participate in a GD community cleanup—an initiative used to mask the gang’s criminal operations. Wiretaps revealed chilling planning sessions, including a recorded meeting where members plotted to rob over $80,000 from a fraudster, and phone calls detailing a violent carjacking. These crimes formed part of a decades-long pattern of drug trafficking, bank fraud, extortion, and murder.

“These defendants were responsible for horrific violent crimes,” said U.S. Attorney Byung J. ‘BJay’ Pak. “Gangs like this cannot hide behind community service while promoting murder and robbery.” FBI Special Agent Chris Hacker praised the multi-agency task force, calling the Gangster Disciples “ruthless” and vowing to dismantle their operations completely. DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston emphasized that interagency cooperation was key to delivering justice.

The convictions send a stark message: leadership within organized crime—no matter how shielded by rank or public image—will be held accountable. Alonzo Walton, once sworn to protect the public, now faces a lengthy federal prison sentence alongside his co-defendants. The DOJ vows the crackdown on the Gangster Disciples will continue, with more prosecutions expected as the investigation unfolds.
