Ardmore Postal Worker Admits Tampering With the Mail

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – A dark betrayal of public trust unfolded today as Justin Slate Throneberry, 32, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, admitted to deliberately interfering with the U.S. Mail. Throneberry pled guilty to one count of Delay Or Destruction Of Mail By Postal Employee, a federal offense under Title 18, United States Code, Section 1703.

The case, originating from an investigation spearheaded by the United States Postal Inspection Service, Office of Inspector General, revealed Throneberry’s actions dating back to December 19, 2013. He was initially indicted in March 2014, but the proceedings dragged on for years before today’s guilty plea. The indictment detailed a calculated breach of duty: Throneberry, while employed by the United States Postal Service, willfully, knowingly, and unlawfully secreted, destroyed, detained, and opened a package entrusted to his care.

This wasn’t a simple mistake or accidental loss. The prosecution alleges Throneberry actively interfered with the delivery of mail while performing his assigned duties. The specific contents of the package remain sealed, but the act itself represents a serious compromise of the postal system’s integrity – and a violation of the trust placed in those who handle our correspondence.

Magistrate Judge Kimberly E. West accepted the guilty plea in Muskogee. A presentence investigation report has been ordered to gather further details on Throneberry’s background and the circumstances surrounding his crime. Sentencing is pending completion of that report, leaving the door open for a full accounting of his actions.

Throneberry now faces a potential sentence of up to 5 years imprisonment and a hefty fine of up to $250,000.00. While the investigation has concluded with a guilty plea, the damage to public confidence in the postal service is a lasting consequence. Assistant United States Attorney Chris Wilson skillfully prosecuted the case, bringing Throneberry to justice.

The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as sentencing approaches, providing updates on the punishment handed down to Throneberry and the broader implications of this breach of public trust. This isn’t just about one rogue postal worker; it’s about the vulnerability of a system we rely on every single day.
