A 48-year-old Tucson man was sentenced to 262 months in prison for his conviction on methamphetamine trafficking and firearms charges.
Matthew Maley was sentenced in federal court in Las Cruces, New Mexico, for his role in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Doña Ana County.
The superseding indictment charged Maley, along with four co-defendants, with participating in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Doña Ana County from June 2013 through August 2013.
Maley was also charged with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. The four co-defendants entered guilty pleas to various counts of the superseding indictment while Maley elected to exercise his right to a jury trial.
The trial concluded on September 25, 2014, when the jury returned a verdict of guilty against Maley on four methamphetamine trafficking charges and the firearms charge.
The trial evidence established that Maley was the head of a drug trafficking organization that distributed significant quantities of methamphetamine in New Mexico and Arizona.
U.S. Attorney Damon P. Martinez said that Maley was prosecuted under a federal anti-violence initiative that targets repeat offenders for federal prosecution.
