Austin Furr Sentenced To 80 Months For Voluntary Manslaughter

Austin Isaac Furr, 23, of Glenpool, Oklahoma, is headed to the slammer for a long time after being sentenced to 80 months for voluntary manslaughter in Indian Country.

The charges against Furr were the result of investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma Office of the Inspector General.

On October 11, 2023, Furr pleaded guilty to the charge, admitting to his involvement in an altercation with his cellmate in the Oklahoma State Penitentiary on September 26, 2021.

According to investigators, Furr got into a struggle with his cellmate, and in the heat of the moment, he stabbed and strangled the man, resulting in his death.

The crimes took place in Pittsburg County, within the boundaries of the Choctaw Nation Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The Honorable Ronald A. White, U.S. Chief Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing and imposed the sentence.

Furr will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.

Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Howanitz represented the United States in the case.

The sentence brings closure to the family and loved ones of the victim, who will never have the chance to see justice served in person.

Furr’s actions were a brutal and inhumane demonstration of violence, and his punishment reflects the severity of his crime.

The people of Oklahoma can rest a little easier knowing that justice has been served in this case.
