Syriane Baldwin, a/k/a “Del,” 30, of Bangor, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to one year and three months for distributing crack cocaine. The hard-time sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock Jr., marks the end of a years-long federal case rooted in a single, fateful drug deal that law enforcement never forgot.
Baldwin pled guilty on May 18, 2016, to one count of distributing cocaine base, commonly known as crack. The charge stems from a controlled transaction on September 5, 2014, when he sold approximately three grams of the drug for $300 to an individual working directly with law enforcement. The deal went down under surveillance, evidence that prosecutors said sealed his fate.
U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II confirmed the sentencing took place today in U.S. District Court in Bangor. Baldwin will serve 15 months behind bars followed by three years of supervised release. Federal authorities made no concessions—this was a straight-up drug conviction with no plea bargaining that reduced the core charge.
The investigation was a multi-jurisdictional effort, led by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA), with critical support from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ New Haven, Connecticut office, and the New Haven Police Department. Officials say the collaboration underscores how regional drug networks often stretch across state lines, requiring coordinated crackdowns.
Baldwin, known on the street as “Del,” now joins the ranks of dozens processed through Maine’s federal courts for crack-related offenses in recent years. But his case stands out for the weight of evidence and the speed with which law enforcement moved after the 2014 sale. Federal prosecutors called it a textbook example of how informants and surveillance dismantle low-level but persistent drug activity.
For now, Baldwin’s whereabouts are sealed by the Bureau of Prisons, which will determine his placement. What’s clear: his life on the streets of Bangor is on hold. The message from federal prosecutors is blunt—move drugs, even a small amount, and the feds will come knocking. Years later, the knock still lands hard.
