Gerardo Federico Rodriguez, a 29-year-old from Beaumont, Texas, is headed to federal prison for a decade after being sentenced on drug and gun charges in the Eastern District of Texas. The takedown culminated from a January 2017 raid that uncovered a stash of meth, high-powered firearms, and evidence of a running narcotics operation.
Rodriguez pleaded guilty on July 10, 2017, to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Today, U.S. District Judge Marcia Crone handed down a 120-month sentence, slamming the defendant for maintaining a dangerous hub of drug activity and illegal weapons in a residential neighborhood.
Court documents reveal the extent of the operation: On January 27, 2017, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Rodriguez’s home on West Lynwood in Beaumont. Inside, they found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in plain view on a table—next to a ledger detailing over $30,000 in drug transactions. The books didn’t lie. This was no user—this was a dealer running a serious operation.
But it got worse. Officers discovered a backpack in another part of the house containing a second loaded handgun and a bag of methamphetamine. A bedroom television displayed a live surveillance feed of the property—clear signs of a calculated, paranoid trafficking setup. In the garage, they struck gold: more firearms, additional methamphetamine, and cocaine stashed for distribution.
Rodriguez was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 1, 2017, on multiple drug trafficking violations. The case was prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative targeting gun and gang violence through coordinated crackdowns involving federal, state, and local agencies. The goal: choke off supply and protect communities drowning in violence.
The investigation was led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Beaumont Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Randall L. Fluke handled the prosecution. The message is clear—run a drug and gun operation in East Texas, and the feds will come through your door.
