PHILADELPHIA, PA – A former Erie resident is facing serious federal charges after allegedly robbing two Philadelphia banks within a month in 2016. Charles Richard Boehm, 46, has been indicted on two counts of bank robbery, according to United States Attorney Zane David Memeger.
The indictment details that Boehm first targeted a TD Bank branch in Philadelphia on August 12, 2016. Less than a month later, on September 16, 2016, he allegedly struck again, this time robbing a PNC Bank branch, also in Philadelphia. Details regarding the methods used in either robbery have not been released at this time.
If convicted on both counts, Boehm is staring down a lengthy prison sentence. He faces a maximum of 40 years’ imprisonment, alongside a three-year period of supervised release following his incarceration. The financial penalties are also substantial: a potential $500,000 fine and an additional $200 special assessment.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation took the lead on the investigation, piecing together evidence that ultimately led to the indictment of Boehm. The FBI has been tight-lipped about specifics of the case, citing the ongoing legal proceedings.
Assistant United States Attorney Michael S. Lowe is prosecuting the case, tasked with securing a conviction against Boehm and ensuring justice for the affected financial institutions and the citizens of Philadelphia. The USAO has a strong record in prosecuting financial crimes.
Boehm’s case is a stark reminder of the ever-present threat of bank robbery, even in a city with sophisticated security measures. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it progresses through the federal court system, bringing you the latest updates on this brazen act of criminality.
