Brooklyn Gun Runner Tony Terry Charged in Firearms Trafficking Conspiracy

A Brooklyn man is behind bars, charged with conspiring to bring deadly firearms from Georgia to the streets of East New York, Brooklyn.

Tony Terry, 35, of Brooklyn, was arrested this morning at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn, accused of illegally trafficking firearms from Georgia to Brooklyn.

According to the indictment, Terry traveled to Savannah, Georgia, multiple times, where members of his family acted as straw purchasers for multiple firearms from licensed dealers. Those firearms were then sold to a co-conspirator, who sold them to an undercover NYPD officer in East New York, Brooklyn.

The indictment, unsealed earlier today, charges Terry with four counts of conspiring to traffic firearms. The charges carry significant penalties, including up to 20 years in prison.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to disrupt the flow of illegal guns along the Iron Pipeline, a notorious route for firearms trafficking.

“As alleged, the defendant brought deadly weapons from Georgia to the streets of East New York, Brooklyn, a community that has suffered terribly from gun violence,” said Breon Peace, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

The indictment also charges two family members, Jose Marrero and Jacqueline Christmas, with purchasing multiple firearms on behalf of Terry. Marrero pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months in prison, while Christmas is awaiting sentencing.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Raffaela S. Belizaire.

Terry is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon before United States Magistrate Judge Peggy Kuo.
