Brooklyn Man Convicted of Transporting Aliens for $2,000 Payoff

Syracuse, NY – In a guilty verdict delivered by a three-day jury trial, Ydenis Adames-Ramos, age 36, has been convicted of illegally transporting aliens.

The evidence presented during the trial revealed that on March 11, 2023, Adames-Ramos drove from his Brooklyn residence to Chateaugay, New York, to pick up three individuals who were illegally present in the United States.

Those aliens were then transported by Adames-Ramos in the Chateaugay area before being stopped by the United States Border Patrol. The defendant intended to drive the aliens to Queens, New York, in exchange for a $2,000 payment.

The United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Robert N. Garcia, Chief Patrol Agent of the United States Border Patrol Swanton Sector, made the announcement following the conviction.

Adames-Ramos now faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years. Sentencing is set for October 3, 2024, in Albany, before United States District Judge Anne M. Nardacci.

The United States Border Patrol investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jessica N. Carbone and Adrian S. LaRochelle prosecuting the case.

Ydenis Adames-Ramos, a native of the Dominican Republic living in Brooklyn, New York, has been convicted of a serious crime that endangered the lives of multiple individuals.
