Camden Woman Sentenced to 12 Years for Child Exploitation

Janine Kelley, a 36-year-old registered nurse from Audubon, New Jersey, was sentenced to 144 months in prison for conspiring to produce sexually explicit images of two children. This is a despicable crime that has shaken the community and left many in shock.

Pursuant to her guilty plea, Kelley, along with her former boyfriend Alexander Capasso, 44, of Collingswood, New Jersey, engaged in a sexual relationship during which Capasso expressed an interest in engaging in sexual conduct with children. From November 2011 through October 2012, Kelley took and allowed Capasso to take recorded images of her engaged in sexually explicit conduct with two children. In addition, Kelley took and allowed Capasso to take images of him engaged in sexually explicit conduct with one of the children.

Capasso, who previously pleaded guilty to his role in the conspiracy, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on January 17, 2018. Kelley’s sentence is a testament to the severity of this crime and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.

The investigation into Kelley’s and Capasso’s actions was led by special agents of the FBI Philadelphia Division, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael Harpster, and the FBI Washington D.C., Field Office, under the direction of Assistant Director in Charge Andrew Vale.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Diana Carrig and Sara Aliabadi of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Camden. Kelley’s defense counsel is Christopher O’Malley Esq., Assistant Federal Public Defender, Camden.

Judge Jerome B. Simandle handed down the sentence in Camden federal court. In addition to the prison term, Kelley was also sentenced to 10 years of supervised release. This sentence serves as a reminder that child exploitation is a serious offense that will be met with severe consequences.

The Camden community is relieved that justice has been served in this case, and we hope that it will serve as a warning to others who would commit similar crimes.
