HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Charles Vincent Hively, Jr., 46, of Charleston, West Virginia, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to 34 months for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine distribution network, United States Attorney Mike Stuart announced today. Hively previously pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, a charge stemming from a June 2019 raid.
The bust unfolded at Hively’s residence at 1195 Livingston Ave. in Charleston, when officers moved to execute an arrest warrant. According to court documents, Hively attempted to flee, running to the rear of the property and tossing a cigarette box out the window. That box contained approximately 24 grams of methamphetamine. A subsequent search of the residence yielded additional drugs. Hively admitted his intent to distribute the contraband.
“Another great effort,” stated U.S. Attorney Stuart. “This man is going to prison and another meth dealer in the world of drug trafficking has been removed.” The investigation revealed Hively was responsible for distributing up to 200 grams of methamphetamine throughout the Southern District of West Virginia. The operation sourced the drugs from Akron, Ohio, flooding local communities with the deadly substance.
This wasn’t a solo operation. A massive, multi-agency task force brought Hively down. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) spearheaded the investigation, with crucial support from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Violent Crime and Drug Task Force West, the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT), the West Virginia State Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force, and numerous local and state law enforcement agencies across West Virginia and Ohio.
United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers handed down the 34-month sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Joseph F. Adams prosecuted the case. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in West Virginia.
A press release detailing the sentencing is available on the U.S. Attorney’s Office website for the Southern District of West Virginia.
