San Diego, CA – In a shocking turn of events, Daniel Joseph Noble, a 28-year-old former assistant water polo coach for the University of California, Davis men’s team, has pleaded guilty to distributing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
According to court records, Noble participated in a private Kik chat group dedicated to sharing videos of child pornography between March 10, 2022, and April 12, 2022. During this time, he shared over 20 video files with the group, some of which showed prepubescent minors being sexually abused by adults.
Noble’s illicit activities took place while he was employed as both the assistant water polo coach for UC Davis and the associated youth team. This disturbing revelation has left many in the community reeling, wondering how someone in a position of trust could engage in such heinous behavior.
The case is the result of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Sacramento and Jacksonville, Florida, as well as the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina McCall is handling the prosecution.
Noble’s guilty plea has led to his remand into custody, and he is set to be sentenced on September 12, 2024, by U.S. District Judge Daniel J. Calabretta. He faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison, a mandatory minimum of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to a lifetime of supervised release.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. As part of this effort, federal, state, and local resources are being marshaled to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children online, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
