Eight individuals have been indicted for their alleged roles in a child pornography ring, with charges ranging from distribution to receipt of child pornography, according to a federal indictment unsealed in Louisiana.
The indictment, announced by U.S. Attorney Kenneth Allen Polite, Jr., names Daniel N. Devor, 39, of Brunswick, Georgia; John C. Foster, 44, of Tipp City, Ohio; Aung Gaw, a/k/a Michael Gaw, 25, of Fremont, California; Sean Jabbar, 32, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Christopher Jamieson, 30, of Douglasville, Georgia; Andrew J. Korpal, 29, of Granger, Indiana; Nicholas Saine, 27, of Seattle, Washington; and Stanley Zdon, III, 27, of Tuckerton, New Jersey.
Devor and Foster were charged with Distribution and Receipt of Child Pornography, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum sentence of 20 years. The other six defendants were charged with Receipt of Child Pornography, which also carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum sentence of 20 years. In addition, each defendant will be placed on a term of supervised release after imprisonment for a minimum of five years up to life.
These charges come as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Justice Department. "Child sexual predators cause significant harm to our society by inflicting horrific abuse on innocent children," said HSI New Orleans Special Agent in Charge Raymond R. Parmer Jr.
"These indictments represent a strong coordinated strike – by Homeland Security, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and several U.S. Attorney’s Offices around the country – against child pornography and those who allegedly seek to harm our most vulnerable citizens, our young children," stated U.S. Attorney Kenneth Allen Polite, Jr.
The investigation was led by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security-Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. The prosecution of this case is being handled by Strike Force Chief and Project Safe Childhood Coordinator, Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba.
U.S. Attorney Polite reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
