Cleveland Man Jailed for Running Large Fentanyl Ring

A federal judge in Cleveland has handed down a lengthy prison sentence to a local man for his role in a large-scale fentanyl trafficking operation.

Wallace, 35, of Cleveland, Ohio, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his involvement in the fentanyl trafficking operation. According to court documents, Wallace was the mastermind behind a large-scale fentanyl trafficking ring that distributed the deadly opioid in the Cleveland area.

Prosecutors alleged that Wallace, using various aliases, orchestrated the distribution of over 1 kilogram of fentanyl, resulting in numerous overdose deaths and hospitalizations. The investigation, led by the DEA, uncovered a complex network of suppliers, distributors, and sellers who worked together to bring the deadly opioid to the streets of Cleveland.

Wallace was arrested in March 2021, after a lengthy investigation by the DEA’s Northern Ohio Enforcement Group. He was charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, and one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

At sentencing, U.S. District Judge James S. Gwin stated, ‘The fentanyl epidemic is a crisis that affects families and communities across this country. Your actions, Mr. Wallace, contributed to this crisis, and for that, you will face serious consequences.’

The case against Wallace was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney, Timothy M. Mangan. Wallace’s defense team, led by attorney, James M. Ritzler, argued that Wallace was not a major player in the fentanyl trafficking operation, but rather a low-level seller who was coerced into participating by more powerful figures in the organization.

However, the prosecution presented evidence that Wallace was a key player in the operation, using his connections to source and distribute large quantities of fentanyl. The evidence included text messages, phone records, and witness testimony, all of which implicated Wallace in the fentanyl trafficking scheme.
