Colorado Man Pleads Guilty to Grisly Threat

SYRACUSE, NY – A Colorado man is facing serious time after admitting he terrorized a Cayuga County resident with gruesome threats, according to federal prosecutors. Jerry Gordon, 56, pled guilty Friday to transmitting a threat in interstate commerce to injure another person – a charge that carries a hefty penalty.

Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany FBI Field Office, announced the guilty plea. Court documents reveal Gordon bombarded a man in Aurora, New York, with four chilling text messages between April 22, 2025, and April 25, 2025. The messages weren’t vague warnings; they were explicitly violent, telling the victim to “get his affairs in order” before Friday, April 25, 2025, and promising to “drink your blood from the chalice that I will make out of your heart.”

Federal agents didn’t wait for the promised violence to unfold. The FBI intercepted Gordon as he disembarked a flight at Syracuse Hancock International Airport on April 25, 2025. He had traveled from Colorado, seemingly intent on carrying out his horrifying threats. The swift arrest was a direct result of a coordinated effort between multiple law enforcement agencies, officials say.

“Vile threats to kill the citizens of our district will not be tolerated,” stated Acting U.S. Attorney Sarcone III. “Local, state and federal agents, working together, quickly responded to the impending threat and apprehended the defendant as he was getting off the plane having traveled from Colorado to Syracuse to attack the victim.” FBI Special Agent in Charge Tremaroli echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the bureau’s “unwavering commitment to working with our partners to swiftly investigate, intercept, and bring to justice anyone who threatens our citizens with disturbing acts of violence.”

Gordon is scheduled to be sentenced on November 24, 2025, before United States District Judge Elizabeth C. Coombe. He faces a maximum term of 5 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to 3 years of supervised release. The final sentence will be determined by Judge Coombe, taking into account federal sentencing guidelines and the specifics of the case.

The investigation was a massive undertaking, involving the FBI, New York State Police, Syracuse Regional Airport Authority Police Department, Syracuse Police Department, Cornell Police Department, Tompkins County Sherriff’s Office, United States Marshals Service, Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, Federal Air Marshal Service, and the Oneida County Sherriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey J. L. Brown is leading the prosecution of this disturbing case.
