In a bizarre spectacle, the Commercial Club of Topeka, Kansas, has been waging a military-style campaign to recruit new members. The ‘Army of the Long View’ under Colonel George Godfrey Moore and the ‘Army of the Kaw’ under Colonel E.S. Pettyjohn have been battling it out, with the Long View Army currently in the lead. By the end of Tuesday, March 17, 1914, the Long View Army had captured an impressive 85 captives, while the Kaw Army had taken 51. The campaign, which began on Monday morning, had already yielded a staggering 136 new recruits by noon on Tuesday.
