Conehatta Man Javeon Jefferson Guilty of Sex Abuse

A Newton County man has pleaded guilty to the shocking crime of sexually abusing a minor under the age of 16 in the Choctaw Indian Reservation.

Javeon Deshaun Jefferson, 25, admitted to the heinous act in a plea deal announced by the Department of Justice on June 17, 2025.

According to court documents, Jefferson engaged in the sexual abuse of a minor in the Conehatta Community in February 2024.

Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon of the Southern District of Mississippi made the announcement, stating that the Choctaw Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case.

Jefferson is scheduled to be sentenced on October 28, 2025, and faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. A federal district judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The prosecution team, led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin J. Payne and Brian K. Burns, will likely be seeking the maximum sentence for the defendant’s egregious crimes.

The guilty plea is a major victory for law enforcement and the community, bringing justice to the victim and their family.
