A convicted felon from Yazoo City has taken a guilty plea in federal court for possessing a firearm.
Desmond Robinson, 28, of Yazoo City, Mississippi, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a federal crime.
The plea was entered in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi in Jackson.
According to court documents, Robinson was found in possession of a firearm during a traffic stop conducted by the Yazoo City Police Department.
Misguided attempts by convicted felons to possess firearms put themselves and innocent citizens at risk. This guilty plea sends a clear message that such reckless behavior will not be tolerated.
Robinson is scheduled to be sentenced on September 4, 2024, and faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case was prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts. PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Samuel Goff is prosecuting the case, which is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee and Special Agent in Charge Robert A. Eikhoff of the Federal Bureau of Investigation made the announcement.
