Curtis Ellington Sentenced to 25 Years for Enticement of Minor

Registered sex offender Curtis Ellington was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Philip M. Halpern for his despicable enticement of a 15-year-old minor, reports the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton.

According to U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton, ‘Children deserve protection from predators like Ellington who would exploit them. There is zero tolerance for this heinous conduct. Our Office will pursue every lead and resource to ensure that predators are removed from our communities.’

Ellington, 36, of Junction City, Kansas, had previously been convicted of first-degree rape in Orange County Court in 2007, resulting in a seven-year prison sentence. He was required to register as a sex offender following this conviction.

The crime unfolded on April 7, 2023, when Ellington traveled from Kansas to Orange County, New York, and slept at the home of the minor. During his stay, he engaged in sexual activity with the teenager after communicating via Instagram about his desire to do so. This disturbing behavior led to his conviction and current sentence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Marcia S. Cohen oversaw the prosecution for this case. The investigation involved collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Middletown Police Department, Geary County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas.

Ellington was also sentenced to 15 years of supervised release following his prison term. The public is reminded to report any suspected sexual exploitation by calling 1-800-Call-FBI.
