Registered sex offender CURTIS ELLINGTON has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Philip M. Halpern for enticement of a minor, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. The sentence comes after Ellington engaged in sexual activity with a 15-year-old victim while required to register as a sex offender.
“Children deserve protection from those who would exploit them,” said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton, emphasizing zero tolerance for such heinous conduct. “Our Office will pursue every lead and bring every resource to bear to ensure predators like Ellington are removed from our communities.”
Evidence revealed that Ellington, who was convicted in 2007 of intercourse with a child under 11 years old in Orange County, traveled from Kansas to New York. He slept at the victim’s home on April 7, 2023, and engaged in multiple communications via Instagram before the sexual encounter.
In addition to his prison term, Ellington, 36, of Junction City, Kansas, was sentenced to 15 years of supervised release. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marcia S. Cohen led the prosecution for the Office’s White Plains Division.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the FBI, Middletown Police Department, Geary County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas. The public is encouraged to report sexual exploitation of children by calling 1-800-Call-FBI.
Ellington’s past conviction required him to register as a sex offender, yet he continued his predatory behavior, highlighting the gravity of this crime and the need for continued vigilance against child predators.
