D.C. Man Gets 2 Years for Pointing Gun at Taxi Driver

A Washington, D.C., man will spend the next two years in federal prison for threatening a taxi driver with a gun during a 2019 confrontation, according to federal prosecutors.

Erick Blanco-Cordova, 24, was sentenced today after pleading guilty to pointing a firearm at the cab driver in November 2019, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced.

Prosecutors say the incident unfolded when Blanco-Cordova, then 20, brandished a weapon during an altercation with the taxi driver. The exact location and circumstances of the confrontation were not detailed in the court filing.

The two-year sentence reflects federal sentencing guidelines for brandishing a firearm during a violent crime. Blanco-Cordova will serve his time in federal custody without the possibility of parole.

Federal authorities emphasized that violent confrontations involving firearms in public spaces pose serious risks to community safety. The U.S. Attorney’s Office noted that such offenses carry substantial prison terms under federal law.

Blanco-Cordova, who remains in federal custody, will be required to serve his full sentence before any potential release or supervised release consideration.
