Daniel Frisiello Arrested for Mailing Threatening Powder Letters

Beverly, Mass. man Daniel Frisiello, 24, was arrested today on federal charges for unleashing a cross-country wave of terror through the U.S. mail. Authorities say Frisiello mailed five threatening envelopes laced with suspicious white powder to high-profile individuals, triggering emergency responses and nationwide panic. The letters, postmarked in Boston, were designed to look like biological threats—each carrying notes implying the powder was dangerous or deadly.

Frisiello is charged in a criminal complaint with five counts of mailing a threat to injure the person of another and five counts of false information and hoaxes. He was taken into custody this morning and is scheduled to appear in federal court in Worcester later today. Court documents tie him directly to the envelopes sent to prominent figures, including one addressed to ‘DonalD trump Jr’—son of former President Donald Trump—spelling errors and all.

According to U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling for the District of Massachusetts, the investigation underscores law enforcement’s resolve to hunt down those who weaponize fear. ‘These incidents caused law enforcement agencies around the country to deploy emergency response units, spend time and money, and disrupt daily operations,’ Lelling said. ‘The powder was inert. No one was physically harmed. But the terror inflicted was real.’

Harold H. Shaw, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Boston Division, slammed the acts as a deliberate abuse of public fear. ‘Whether real or a hoax, don’t do it,’ Shaw warned. ‘Each letter required field screening, FBI WMD experts, and lab analysis. Taxpayers foot the bill. First responders are pulled from real emergencies. This isn’t protest—it’s criminal intimidation.’

Ramsey Moss, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service in Boston, emphasized the violation of public trust. ‘When the U.S. Mail is used to transport potentially dangerous substances, we take it deadly seriously,’ Moss said. The arrest came through a coordinated effort with the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, and members of the Boston Joint Terrorism Task Force, proving the reach of interagency crackdowns.

Stephen Marks, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service Boston Field Office, confirmed the letters targeted protectees under their purview. ‘Any threat directed at our protectees is met with full investigative force,’ Marks said. ‘This case highlights the seamless collaboration between federal, state, and local partners.’ Frisiello now faces the full wrath of federal prosecution for exploiting the mail system to spread fear.
