David M. Kruse Sentenced in Child Porn Case

A 63-year-old The Colony, Texas man, David M. Kruse, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison today for possession of child pornography, following a years-long investigation rooted in digital exploitation. The sentencing, handed down by U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant in the Eastern District of Texas, marks the end of a case that exposed a massive archive of illegal material tied to one of the most disturbing corners of the internet.

Kruse pleaded guilty on October 6, 2016, to federal charges after authorities uncovered more than 20,000 images and videos of child pornography on a computer registered in his name. The material, discovered during a targeted FBI probe, included graphic depictions of prepubescent minors and acts of sadistic and masochistic abuse—evidence that prosecutors said demonstrated both the severity and predatory nature of the crime.

The investigation began in August 2015, when federal agents received intelligence about a user accessing known child exploitation sites. A search warrant led them to Kruse’s residence, where he admitted ownership of the device. Forensic analysis revealed the vast trove of illicit files, prompting a federal grand jury to indict him on August 13, 2015, on multiple child pornography violations.

Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston, who announced the sentence from the Eastern District of Texas, emphasized that the conviction sends a clear message: those who consume and hoard child sexual abuse material will face severe consequences. “This was not a victimless crime,” Featherston stated. “Every image represents a real child exploited, and we are committed to bringing perpetrators like Kruse to justice.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa Miller as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat the online sexual exploitation of minors. The program integrates federal, state, and local law enforcement to track down offenders and rescue victims, with a focus on digital forensics and network infiltration.

Investigative work was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Plano Police Department. Authorities continue to urge the public to report suspected child exploitation through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST.
