DC Dealer Tossed Drugs & Gun From Window, Convicted

⏱ 3 min read

WASHINGTON D.C. – A D.C. man faces a long stretch after a jury found him guilty yesterday of dealing fentanyl and possessing an illegal firearm. Derrick Thomas Martin, 33, chucked a backpack crammed with drugs and a loaded handgun out of an apartment window as cops moved in to arrest him.

The bust went down November 25, 2024, at an apartment on Pennsylvania Avenue SE. Members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Criminal Apprehension Unit were there to serve a warrant stemming from a case in Maryland – Martin had skipped town on previous gun and drug charges.

Instead of cooperating, Martin tossed a black backpack out the window. Inside, police found roughly 700 grams of cocaine, over 5,700 fentanyl pills, and a Century Arms Micro Draco pistol – a compact semi-automatic that takes the same ammo as an AK-47. The apartment wasn’t empty; a child was reportedly nearby.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro called Martin a “career criminal” with 31 prior arrests. “He stashed large quantities of drugs and cash…just feet from a loaded, micro draco pistol,” she said in a statement. The jury needed less than a day to deliver a guilty verdict on charges of possessing fentanyl and cocaine with intent to distribute, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possessing a firearm during a drug crime.

Martin’s sentencing is set for July 10, 2026, before Judge Trevor N. McFadden. He’s looking at a minimum of 15 years behind bars.
