DC Dealer Tossed Gun & Drugs From Window, Convicted

⏱ 3 min read

WASHINGTON D.C. – Derrick Thomas Martin, 33, a repeat offender with a lengthy rap sheet, is facing a long stretch in federal prison after a jury found him guilty yesterday on multiple drug and weapons charges. The conviction stems from a November 2024 bust where Martin chucked a backpack stuffed with a loaded handgun and enough narcotics to kill a city.

According to courtroom testimony, D.C. Metro PD’s Criminal Apprehension Unit hit Martin’s apartment on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue SE to serve an outstanding warrant from Maryland. As officers approached, Martin panicked and tossed a black backpack out the window. Inside, police found a loaded Century Arms Micro Draco – essentially a miniature AK-47 – along with roughly 700 grams of cocaine and over 5,700 fentanyl pills.

The bust wasn’t just about the drugs. Prosecutors hammered home the danger Martin posed, pointing out the arrest happened in an apartment where a child was sleeping nearby. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro didn’t mince words, calling Martin a “career criminal” with 31 prior arrests and a “clear danger to our community.”

Martin’s history includes previous charges of illegal firearm possession and drug distribution, which he skipped out on a trial for in Maryland. Now, he’s looking at a minimum of 15 years behind bars when he’s sentenced July 10, 2026, before Judge Trevor N. McFadden. The feds have effectively ended what they call a “one-man crime spree.”
