Demon L. Anderson Sentenced in Wichita Gas Station Heists

Demon L. Anderson, 27, of Wichita, Kan., is behind bars for six years after pleading guilty to the armed robbery of two Wichita gas stations in December 2015. The federal sentence marks the end of a violent crime spree that unfolded in a single night and ended in a swift arrest thanks to police surveillance.

On Dec. 4, 2015, Anderson and co-defendant Roy E. Walls-Guiden entered a Valero gas station at 248 S. Hillside in Wichita while the clerk was outside. They began grabbing cash and cigarettes until the clerk returned. At that point, Walls-Guiden pulled a .40 caliber handgun, pointed it at the employee, and both men fled the store with stolen goods.

Undeterred and still armed, the pair targeted a second location hours later—the Petro America gas station at 2838 W. Central Ave. What they didn’t know was that a police officer was already watching, conducting surveillance at the site. When the officers saw the two men enter in suspicious fashion, backup was called immediately.

Anderson and Walls-Guiden were arrested at the scene of the second attempted robbery. Evidence, witness statements, and the presence of law enforcement on site sealed their fate. No one was physically injured during either incident, but the use of a firearm elevated the charges to federal level.

Walls-Guiden, also of Wichita, was sentenced in July to 188 months—over 15 years—in federal prison for his role. His longer sentence reflects the severity of using a firearm during a violent crime, a factor that prosecutors emphasized in court.

Acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall praised the collaboration between the Wichita Police Department, the FBI, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart, who prosecuted the case. “This outcome sends a message,” Beall said. “Robbing businesses at gunpoint has serious consequences.” Anderson will serve his six-year sentence in federal custody, followed by three years of supervised release.
