Embezzlement Lands Edmond Woman in Jail

LeAnn Marie Goode, a former comptroller from Edmond, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for embezzling funds from her employer, Market Source, Inc. and signing a false federal income tax return.

Goode, who was employed as the Accountant/Comptroller at Market Source, Inc. in Oklahoma City from 2012 to 2013, used interstate wire communications to defraud her employer. She paid personal expenses out of Market Source’s account at InterBank and disguised her embezzlement by treating those payments as business-related expenses.

Goode also pleaded guilty to signing a false tax return, admitting that on January 31, 2014, she signed a personal federal tax return for the 2013 calendar year that she knew was false because it reported only $65,774 in total income, substantially less than the income she actually received.

At today’s sentencing, U.S. District Judge Timothy D. DeGiusti ordered that Goode be incarcerated for 18 months. She must also pay restitution in the total amount of $236,923.45 to Market Source ($139,701.45), Ohio Casualty ($50,000.00), and the Internal Revenue Service ($47,222.00).

After completing her sentence, Goode will serve three years of supervised release. She must perform 104 hours of community service during the first year of supervised release.

This case was the result of an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service—Criminal Investigations and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kerry A. Kelly.

The sentencing of Goode brings an end to a investigation that began in 2012 and resulted in a guilty plea in 2015. The case is a reminder of the importance of accountability and transparency in the workplace.
