Euclid Man Ryan Gaston Gets 10 Years for 925 Fentanyl Pills

A Euclid man is headed to federal prison for a decade after being caught with more than 900 fentanyl-laced pills, crack cocaine, and a loaded firearm. Ryan Gaston, 30, was sentenced to 10 years behind bars after being found guilty of multiple federal drug and weapons charges, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Carole Rendon.

Gaston, whose criminal actions put a Cleveland Heights neighborhood at risk, was arrested on February 3 during a targeted law enforcement operation. A search of his vehicle turned up crack cocaine and a 9 mm High Point rifle. That discovery triggered a follow-up raid on his Euclid apartment, where agents uncovered an additional stash of drugs and the nearly 1,000 round blue pills initially believed to be Oxycodone.

Lab results confirmed the pills were not Oxycodone — they were fentanyl, a synthetic opioid up to 100 times more potent than morphine. The 925 counterfeit pills, often indistinguishable from prescription medication, carry a deadly risk with every dose. According to court documents, even a minuscule amount can trigger a fatal overdose.

Gaston was convicted on three counts: possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. The firearm charge alone carried a mandatory minimum sentence, sealing Gaston’s decade-long prison term.

“Each one of these pills is an overdose waiting to happen,” Acting U.S. Attorney Carole Rendon said. “This sentence demonstrates the seriousness of dealing these drugs. We will continue to attack the opioid problem from all sides – prevention, education, treatment and enforcement.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Baeppler, following a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Cleveland Heights Police Department, Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office, and Euclid Police Department — a coordinated push against the flood of synthetic opioids infiltrating Northeast Ohio streets.
